We answer your most frequently asked questions

Services

Q: Can I have my eyes checked or consult an ophthalmologist at Panay Eye Center?

Panay Eye Center does not house a doctor’s clinic. Rather, it is a diagnostic and therapeutic center.  As a diagnostic center, it has dedicated machines for specialized eye tests. As a therapeutic center, it provides the ophthalmologists with the laser machines they need to treat specific eye conditions.

To have a general check-up of the eyes, patients should visit their chosen ophthalmologist’s clinic for the consultation. You may choose from among our partner doctors here.

Q: Do you offer LASIK surgery?

Panay Eye Center does not currently offer LASIK or other refractive laser procedures.

Clinic

Q: What are your clinic hours?

We are open Mondays to Saturdays from 9am to 4pm. We are closed on Sundays and Holidays.

Q: How do I set an appointment?

Consult your ophthalmologist of choice for a complete eye examination.  Your doctor will determine if you need to come to Panay Eye Center for a special diagnostic test or for laser treatment.  You will be given a request form for the special test or procedure.  Once you have this request, please set an appointment with us by calling our landline at +63-33-3361394 or call/text us at +63 999 558-4942 (for SMART subscribers) or +63 915 650-4173 (for GLOBE subscribers).

Q: What are the safety protocols at the center?

  1. All patients must undergo an interview and have their temperature checked upon entering.

  2. The use of face masks and full face shields will be strictly enforced.

  3. To maintain social distancing, each patient will only be allowed 1 companion when entering the center.

  4. All surfaces are sanitized with 70% alcohol immediately prior to and following each procedure.

  5. Proper ventilation is maintained with the use of an exhaust fan and air purifiers.

  6. At the close of each day, the entire clinic is disinfected with the use of UV light.

  7. All our employees are fully-vaccinated.

Reminders

Q: How often should I have my eyes checked?

  1. Children 3 years old and younger should be brought to an ophthalmologist if they have misaligned eyes (“libat”) or have a white reflex at the pupil.

  2. Before entering kindergarten, it is advisable to have your child’s vision checked by an ophthalmologist. The findings from that initial exam will determine how frequently your child will need to follow-up.

  3. For adults who do not have visual symptoms and are generally healthy, the American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends having a complete eye examination at age 40.

  4. Senior citizens should their eyes examined every 1 to 2 years.

  5. Patients diagnosed with diabetes need to have their eyes checked immediately upon diagnosis and every year thereafter, unless otherwise specified by their ophthalmologist.

  6. Patients taking medications that may affect their vision should be seen regularly.  Examples of these medications include, but are not limited to, Prednisone (if used on a chronic basis), Ethambutol (used for PTB) and Hydroxychloroquine (used for Malaria, Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus).

Q: What are some post-treatment procedures/reminders?

After laser treatment, patients may experience mild discomfort, for which they may be prescribed paracetamol or mefenamic acid.  Depending on the type of laser procedure done, some patients may see dark spots floating around in their field of vision. These will resolve spontaneously over a few days or weeks.  There are no restrictions regarding wetting the eye, as laser treatments do not produce any external wounds.  However, in some cases, doctors may prescribe against heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for a week or two.
