"I have been a patient of Panay Eye Center for a few years now, and each time I visit the clinic and eye center, I always feel well taken care of. The staff are very accommodating. They make sure I’m comfortable and allow me to set my appointments and receive services with ease and without hassle. My doctor also goes beyond just addressing my medical concerns with his expertise by always taking the time to educate me about my condition. The people here are not only competent and efficient, but also compassionate. Each time I come in for my tests and medical check-ups, I’m always reassured that I am receiving the best care possible."

Consultant, Department of Pediatrics, Iloilo Doctors’ College of Medicine

"Just like any person, preparation for a surgical procedure is always accompanied with anxiety. Because of this, one tends to postpone it until it affects function. This is what happened to me, and when I finally decided to have the surgery, the pandemic was already upon us!

"I had cataracts in both my eyes, but before I could undergo the eye surgery, there were preliminary assessments to be made at the Panay Eye Center.  The pandemic makes a person hesitant to expose oneself to places where there is a perceived risk of getting COVID (e.g. hospitals, laboratories and clinics). But since this was necessary, I braved my fears to be there. I was relieved when I got there because the set up was such that I felt safe. I based this on the following observations:

  1. Only a few people at a time are allowed inside the eye center.

  2. Proper health protocols were observed, such as social distancing, wearing of masks and disinfection.

  3. The staff were very courteous, and they put me at ease since they noticed I was tense.

"The result of my preliminary assessment was released immediately, and I was able to bring it back to my ophthalmologist that same day.

"Waiting for the day of my cataract extraction was again anxiety-laden because of my hypertension and diabetes mellitus, which compounded my existing concerns about the pandemic. Thankfully, the assurances of my internists kept me calm.

"I arrived at the emergency room of Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital on time, and everything went as scheduled. I felt safe knowing that the management was well-prepared, taking steps to minimize contamination and making sure their personnel had been regularly tested for coronavirus.

"I was brought to the operating room on time, and the procedure was also done on time. I realized that I was no longer anxious on the day of the surgery. Thanks to the reassuring presence of my anesthesiologist and my ophthalmologist, I was so relaxed the whole time. I did not feel any pain during my procedure (i.e. phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation), or in any time afterwards. My vision was restored immediately.

"Amo man lang gali to?  I should not have postponed it for so long. Restoration of my vision is worth all the effort."
